When the Henson Robinson Zoo opened in 1970, it quickly inspired a group of passionate individuals to take action. They formed the Springfield Zoological Society (SZS) with one purpose: to support and sustain this new valuable resource in the community.

While the level of activity within the organization has evolved over the past 50+ years, our purpose has remained constant. The Springfield Zoological Society exists to fundraise for and support the Henson Robinson Zoo—doing whatever it takes to help the zoo thrive, grow, and inspire.

In recent years, SZS contributions have ranged widely in scale, from supporting $250 educational initiatives to funding major capital projects exceeding $250,000. We have proudly played a role in significant improvements, including renovations to the Penguin exhibit and the Spider Monkey exhibit. In collaboration with zoo staff, we also helped bring Binturongs to the zoo—expanding and strengthening the zoo’s animal collection.
